Stageplay Music

Stageplay Music is a website that pays tribute to the dream I had of becoming a rock and roll star as I came out of high school. Although this dream never materialized back then, my desire to play and write music remains to this day.  Over the years, I kept up my guitar playing and in recent years I have written many songs.  In fact, I have written over 30 songs.  Having written a song is one thing, sharing songs with others is another thing.  A few years back, I decided to share my music by recording these songs in my home studio and present them on a website.  As I pursued this venture, I have done so with the desire to record and release these songs at a high quality audio level.  As a result, it was necessary for me to spend considerable time learning the art of producing music as I studied the topics of music recording, mixing and mastering. As of now I don't claim to be an expert in any of these topics and realize there is much room for improvement. However, I have begun the process of getting better over time.  Now after many years, I am relatively pleased with the progress of my songs and my ability to produce them. As a result, I will now begin sharing my songs one song at a time. Give my songs a listen, I hope you like them and share them with others.

My Story:

The Passion to become a rock star is awakened
My appreciation for music started when I was five when I began listening to music. The first band I Iistened to was the Beatles and one of my favorite songs to this day is "Can't Buy Me Love".  In high school, I continued to be inspired bymusic as I listened to the classic rock and roll bands of that time.  A few of the bands I listened to back then were “The Who”, "Led Zeppelin", “The Doors” and the “Doobie Brothers”.  My passion for playing the guitar began in grade 12 when a friend showed me the chords for the Doobie Brothers song "China Grove". I was hooked.  Before then, I had no direction in life, except for chasing girls.  As my passion for playing music was awakened, I began to practice for many hours daily with the goal in mind of having a career in music. I guess I wanted to be a rock star.  Looking back, I had no clear idea what that meant, but I did take a step forward in order to fulfil this dream. This occurred following high school, when I attended college for a year and studied music. The music education I obtained at college gave me a solid foundation in guitar, basic music theory, introductory piano and ear training.   I did my best to utilize and apply what I learnt as I completed the program as I worked toward this rock and roll dream.

Life Events lead me down a non-music path:
Despite all the effort I put in towards a career in music, around the age of 20 a personal issue arose which led my life along a different path.  When I was 20, it became clear that the tragic drowning of my brother that occurred when I was 12, had left some scars that needed to be taken care of.  The result of this put me at a crossroad. The path I eventually took was an educational path that led me to obtain Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education degrees where I eventually become a teacher. At present, I teach as an on call (substitute) science teacher and work on my music in my free time.

My Passion for Music is Reawakened:
From the time I was approximately 20, until a number of years ago, I played my guitars off and only at times seriously.  This changed in 2006, when it became clear a full time teaching position in the district I was teaching in was not in the cards. With this realization, I started looking at other income sources. Initially, I explored the possibilities associated with real estate investing, but became intrigued with the topic of success and what it takes to become successful. My intrigue with the topic of success led me to join a personal success program run by former Billionaire Bill Bartmann and to attend training events at Frontier Trainings in San Diego put on by Clinton Swaine.  It is a bit of a long story, one I may expand on in the future on this site, but it is because of what I learnt while attending these events that I came up with a fictional rock star character "Brock Star the Rock Star" (http://mrdibble.org/brock_star.html).  Brock Star the Rock Star is a character who lives the rock and roll dream and has taken the steps necessary to become a rock and roll star. After creating Brock, he needed a song which embodied his persona.  It was then I wrote the song “Live Your Dream Every Day” which I like to refer to the song as Brock’s Anthem.  The writing of this song reawakened my musical spirit and tapped me back into my musical creativity.  Follow this I started to practice more and more. Following this, about five years ago I attended a jam session with a local band and had the opportunity to play an electric guitar again. It was fantastic. I had previously been playing only my acoustic guitar. Now that I re-experienced playing an electric guitar again, I purchased a Gibson Les Paul two weeks later. Since that evening, I started to take music seriously again and this has resulted in me writing many songs. To date I have written over 30 songs. Now the time is write to share these songs on stageplaymusic.com

A New Musical Direction:
In order to produce the more than 30 songs I have written at a high audio quality in my home studio, it has been necessary for me to learn about music production and to improve my musicianship. As a result, in recent years a lot of time has been spent studying music production.  In addition to this, I have spent countless hours improving my musicianship by playing the guitar daily and spending time improving my musical ear. To make things clear, this is a total solo effort.  I do not play in a band and therefore you will hear me playing the following on my recordings:  acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitars and vocals.  The other musical instruments on the recording will be done by programming instruments like the drums and keyboards using midi.

My Music Style:
A few people have described my music that being reminiscent of 70s rock.I am not sure about that. Being born in the 60s, my rock influences started with the Beatles. My older brothers had the entire Beatles collection of songs recorded onto a reel to reel tape recorder that I listened to and enjoyed without their approval. When I first started playing the guitar, I loved strumming chords and singing along to rock anthems. What I loved best was the enjoyable experience that took place as positive energy flowed through me as I played.  When I write songs, I do my best to capture the feeling I get while playing those favorite rock anthems. I would describe the type of music I create, as songs with upbeat tempo and positive energy flow. You know, the type of rock and roll songs someone would play with an acoustic guitar while gathered around a campfire. I find great joy when I belt out a song. I would definitely classify myself as a classic rocker.

What’s to Come at Stageplay Music:
With the launching of this website, a foundation has been put in place for me to share my music.  In the weeks and months to come, I plan to share at least one new song produced in my home studio every month.  I also plan to share video recordings of acoustic versions of originals (at least one a month). I have also heard that MAYBE Brock Star might even make an appearance sharing his amazing talent.

Finally, as stated earlier, as of now I do not play in a band or play live.  This is something I am working towards. If you are a musician who likes the type of music I have produced and would like to explore the possibility of forming a band, contact me from the contact page on this website and maybe we can create music together by forming a band.

All the best, enjoy!
